Re-Creation Retreat

The staff, counselors and management have become like family to my wife and I over the past ten months. They are extremely professional and their approach to our girl is professional and unique. The environment, culture and healthy lifestyle they promote is also having a dramatic impact on our child. If you have a young lady who is having serious challenges in her life, this is the best possible place she could be! 10 out of 10.

My daughter has unfortunately been to several residential programs (DBT based, CBT based, wilderness) and none of them worked long term. With some programs she would learn coping skills and within a couple of months back at home she would revert to the same old patterns. What's different about RCR is that they help educate the parents as much as the kids. They also provide opportunities and experiences for our daughters that most other RTCs can't do. They provided my daughter with the opportunity to grow her self esteem and find leadership skills that will help her throughout her life. From a parent perspective, they have been far more communicative and show us pictures and videos of what the girls are doing on a frequent basis, making me feel at ease with the decision to send my child to be in the care of complete strangers. My daughter entered this program on a self-paced course, and while it has taken her a VERY long time (she's stubborn!) to work the program, I can tell that it has truly made a difference. She went from a depressed, angry, defiant, entitled and at times suicidal teen to an emotionally regulated, appreciative, and respectful teenager who is invested in her education and realizes the importance of being a role model to her siblings. It has truly been a 180 for her and I have RCR to thank! She has said it before that if it wasn't for RCR that she would probably be dead (her words, not mine) and for that I am eternally grateful. I cannot recommend this program enough!

We are so happy we sent our daughter to RCR - she has made so much progress in developing the skills to take on the complex world around us. RCR gives girls the right balance of creating a structured environment while teaching & encouraging them from their great staff! Our daughter recently spent 10 months here and we cannot recommend RCR enough if you need help with your daughter. Each and every person who works there has integrity and we knew our daughter was safe and getting the guidance she so badly needed. I cannot tell you how Randy, also the head therapist, was there each step of the way with his calm voice of reason, integrity and amazing leadership. This place has forever changed my daughters life for the better and we would do it again if we needed to. RCR was and continues to be a blessing in our lives and we are so thankful to have found them in our time of need.

We can not say enough great things about the staff at RCR, Randy runs a principle based facility based on Love not fear. Our daughter went to RCR just 3.5 months ago and was lost, she now has purpose. She had decided not to finish school, was harming herself and had no plans of any kind. She basically would do anything negative to get a reaction. Now she smiles, laughs, likes school, has a purpose and is talking about real life plans! Randy and the entire team are always doing what is best for the girls. Amazing transformations happen at RCR! Thank you

Honestly, I don't often give five stars. But after having my stepdaughter home for almost six months and experiencing how different our family's entire dynamic is, RCR was a five star experience for us. I realize this was not initially what our daughter wanted, and I can only try to imagine what it was like to be separated from family and friends. But that separation was what was necessary for our daughter to step out of her situation long enough to see how her behaviors were destroying so many of her relationships. Before RCR, family life was strained and being dominated largely by the resistance of our daughter to respect us in a lot of ways. I won't get into all of the details but things got frightening for her and for all of us. Her program was a little over 8 months and she has returned home with a totally new perspective. She realizes how much choice she has in her life even if things around her are not going the way she wants. This has been huge. She still gets triggered on occasion, but the way she deals with it is totally refreshing and surprising compared to her old behaviors. She communicates with us and we are able to have conversations and disagree without the situation escalating and getting out of hand. I can't say enough how different and relieving this is. Previously, her anger would have gotten the better of her, and she would have raged. I've not seen that rage since she left for RCR. Our other children have thrived upon having their sister return, and value the relationships she has with them. All of us had trust issues with her pre-RCR. We all needed some time when she returned to see if her healthy attitude and way of treating us would last. We have all been so deeply relieved to say that it has lasted. And we have grown closer as a family than I thought possible. No facility is perfect, and I know there are instances where situations happen that are hard for these girls. But since our family lived within driving distance, we visited RCR often. We still occasionally do. We got to know the staff very well, and can say that those we dealt with were sincerely concerned with the well-being of these girls and truly wanted them to discover their own value. Sharla was an ideal therapist fit for our daughter. She gets real with these girls and treats them with respect for what they have gone through but she also gets real enough to call them out when they are dodging accountability or manipulating a situation. We were able to go to some in person parent/daughter therapy that cracked open some old wounds that we were able to heal in our family. Personally, I am so grateful for RCR. The experience gave our family hope for a really bright future together, and I sincerely believe that these girls know what it looks like to lead healthy lives when they are finished with their program. But they have to be the ones who head back out into life and choose to be accountable for their own successes and behaviors. I hope for all of the girls that they are able to see how amazing they are, even if they did not love their RCR experience. We got to know quite a few RCR girls in our time visiting last year, and they are all just these beautiful kids who maybe just stopped believing in their worth along the way. Even if they struggled in their programs, take heart that these girls will know the meaning of healthy boundaries, what codependence looks like, how to be accountable for their own actions, that blame is bondage and so many other things that will come in so handy in future relationships. Thank you RCR for helping our daughter find what she needed to do her healing work and find her spark for life again. We are so grateful.
